Week 5 NFL Surprise: Broncos Upset Eagles while Patriots Stun Bills

Football Game

The last two undefeated squads in the NFL watched their flawless starts shattered during week five as both the Philadelphia Eagles along with Buffalo Bills suffered surprising losses on their own turf.

The Denver Broncos evolved from dark horses to headline-makers thanks to an spectacular rallying win against the reigning Super Bowl title holders the Eagles, prior to boarding a plane for Sunday's London matchup.

The New England Patriots then traveled to Buffalo and ended Buffalo's perfect record with an impressive victory of their own in their initial national television appearance in twelve months.

The Baltimore Ravens experienced a third consecutive defeat - their defensive unit's struggles could be terminal for their play-off hopes - while the Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis, and Detroit Lions enjoyed blowout wins on yet another action-packed Sunday.

Denver Downs Title Holders

Not only was it defeating the Super Bowl champions, but the way of their comeback from 14 points down that made Denver's 21-17 victory in Philadelphia such a signature success.

The Eagles had secured 10 contests in a row, 12 straight on home turf and 20 of their last 21 overall before Denver's signal-caller Bo Nix orchestrated two touchdowns in the final five minutes and a late three-pointer.

Philadelphia are currently 4-1 but there exists a big worry about their offensive unit, which ranks as the poorest performing in the NFL. Wideout DaVonta Smith stated they are not "on the same page" with quarterback Jalen Hurts.

The Broncos' defensive unit, which sacked Hurts on six occasions, had much to contribute with it, and, together with a genuine franchise quarterback in Nix and elite coach in Sean Payton, they possess all the components to launch a legitimate playoff push.

The Broncos face New York's Jets at Tottenham Stadium on Sunday.

Primetime Patriots Upset Bills

Should the Broncos' victory was somewhat anticipated, nobody saw the Patriots traveling to Buffalo and beating Josh Allen's Bills, but they did so with huge character.

A first primetime game for the rookie quarterback produced a star-making showing as he directed a game-winning field goal drive in the dying seconds to win 23-20.

The young QB was tough and executed the right throws at crucial moments, many to former Bills receiver Stefon Diggs, who delivered a big game for Mike Vrabel's side.

The head coach was anticipated to improve the situation in New England, but a win like this arrived earlier than most expected.

New England Defensive Unit

New England's defensive squad bottled up the Buffalo Bills attack during their surprising away win.

Baltimore Postseason Hopes Over?

The season is turning into a disaster for Baltimore, who were missing multiple key defenders as they were dominated 44-10 by the Houston Texans.

It equaled their largest loss at home, and falling to 1-4 for the season means among the preseason Super Bowl contenders have only a slim opportunity of reaching the postseason.

The Ravens are currently 4-11 playing without superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson, who was hurt, but it is an exceptionally poor defense that is the primary concern - for a franchise that have been synonymous with defensive toughness over the years.

Houston strolled to victory as the Ravens became the first team in modern NFL history to allow a minimum of 37 points in four out of five contests. Their campaign is effectively in tatters.

Detroit, Tampa and Indianapolis Go 4-1

Detroit's running back duo Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery scored a touchdown in the same game for the fourteenth occasion - a shared NFL mark - as Detroit put away Cincinnati 37-24.

Victory made it four victories in a row for the highest-scoring team Detroit, but none against opponents with a winning record.

A more surprising 4-1 side are Indianapolis. With Jonathan Taylor scoring a hat-trick in their 40-6 hammering of Las Vegas and quarterback Daniel Jones looking like a new man, they will be a tough match for any side.

Tampa Bay joined the four-win group with a thrilling 38-35 victory in Seattle in which both teams exchanged nine touchdowns in 10 impressive possessions before Seattle cracked first with a final-minute interception.

The kicker kicked the winner with the last kick of the contest for the second time this year. All four of the Bucs' wins have been secured in the final moments.

Saints and Titans Get Help for Initial Victories

Given how New Orleans and Tennessee Titans started the season, they needed help to secure their first wins, and they received ample due to several comical errors from New York and Arizona.

After a good start from first-year player Jaxson Dart, New York made five turnovers - including one decisively returned for a touchdown - while additionally permitting Rashid Shaheed to score on a long catch and run as New Orleans prevailed 26-14.

The Cardinals were even worse as they blew a 21-3 lead primarily due to two huge blunders.

First, Emari Demercado inexplicably fumbled the ball moments before crossing the line for a long score.

Worse followed when Arizona picked off Cam Ward close to their own goal line, then fumbled the football into the end zone for Tyler Lockett to recover as the Titans ended a ten-contest losing streak with a 22-21 victory.

Seahawks Receiver

Tyler Lockett scored one of the most farcical scores witnessed this year.

That left New York's Jets as the sole victory-less squad left in the league after their bruising 37-22 defeat by the Cowboys.

The quarterback became the first player in NFL history to surpass 4K through the air and 1K on the ground in his first 20 professional contests as he came back from injury to steer Washington to an impressive 27-10 victory at Los Angeles.

The running back was the star man for the Carolina Panthers with 206 rushing yards in their thrilling 27-24 victory over Miami.
