The grocery retailer has overturned its determination not to grant compensated employment to an individual with autism after initially saying he had to stop stacking shelves at the branch where he had volunteered for an extended period.
Earlier this year, Tom's mother inquired whether her family member her son could be given a employment opportunity at the supermarket in Greater Manchester, but her application was eventually rejected by the company's corporate office.
On Thursday, competing supermarket the grocery chain announced it wanted to offer Tom employment hours at its local branch.
Addressing the company's change of position, the parent said: "We are going to think about it and determine whether it is in the optimal outcome for Tom to return... and are having ongoing talks with the supermarket."
A representative for the retailer commented: "We'd like to see Tom resume, in compensated work, and are requesting assistance from his loved ones and the support organization to make this happen."
"We anticipate to welcome him again with us shortly."
"We care deeply about helping individuals into the job market who might usually not be offered opportunities."
"Consequently, we gladly accepted Tom and his care assistant into our Manchester location to learn the ropes and develop his abilities."

Tom's mother stated she had been "profoundly affected" by how individuals had answered to her discussing her son's experiences.
The young man, who has specific communication needs, was recognized for his dedication by store leadership.
"He donated extensive time of his time solely because he sought inclusion, contribute, and create value," commented his mother.
Tom's mother recognized and acknowledged team members at the Manchester branch for helping him, stating: "They made him part of the team and were exceptionally supportive."
"I think he was just not sufficiently noticed - everything was working well until it became a headquarters matter."
The family have been backed by local official the mayor.
He posted on online platforms that Tom had received "completely unacceptable" management and promised to "help him to secure alternative employment that works".
Burnham stated the regional organization "actively promotes every business - including Waitrose - to sign up to our brand new diversity program".
Speaking with Tom's mother, who broke the news of the employment opportunity on media outlets, the Labour mayor stated: "Congratulations for raising awareness because we must have a significant public information effort here."
She agreed to his invitation to serve as a representative for the initiative.
