Mario's Galactic Adventure Preview Debuts, Introducing Rosalina and Bowser Jr. Actors

Nintendo alongside Illumination unveiled the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. This occurred during a special Nintendo Direct that focused exclusively on the forthcoming animated feature.

Following up on the 2023 hit film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this latest chapter will transport Mario to the outer limits of the cosmos. Along the way, he discovers a fresh princess character and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the son of the King of the Koopas.

A Space-Faring Quest Based on Iconic Releases

Much like the Wii-era games that act as its source material, Mario will venture away from the well-known surroundings of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. Throughout his extensive trek, he will encounter once more some recognizable characters, for instance the Luma, a popular character from the previous film.

But it appears Mario and his brother Luigi will confront a new threat in the form of Bowser's irate young son, who apparently wields metal-based powers. Worth mentioning, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also features references to further iconic releases like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.

Celebrity Voice Actors Returns and Expands

The movie will welcome back of the primary vocal talent, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

Fresh faces in the lineup for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to embody Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.

A Significant Period for Mario

Mario's latest cinematic adventure is planned to debut near the 40-year celebration of the first Super Mario Bros. title. In addition to the movie, 2026 is shaping up to be a significant year for Mario and his companions.

The company has a trio of new releases already confirmed for that year, including Mario Tennis Fever, a version for Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a latest Yoshi adventure game titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

Premiere Date Announced

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is planned for launch on April 3, 2026.
